When Hühne began to manage this prominent development site located just a stone’s throw from Messe Frankfurt, our starting point was an existing urban master plan with a loose arrangement of entertainment and retail components. We quickly determined that a large inner city shopping centre would be the best way to utilize the property and defined the parameters for a circular, two-story shopping mall around an open plaza.
The design was executed by The Jerde Partnership architects from Santa Monica, California who have an outstanding track record creating innovative and successful shopping environments around the world.
Once the necessary political decisions were secured in favor of a shopping centre on this site, the project was handed over to a large-scale operator who subsequently made extensive modifications that compromise to some degree the shopping experience we had in mind.
